Hi, I’m Coach Wilson
Coach Wilson competed in the state of Iowa from age 6 - 18. The highlight of his high school career happened in 1986 when he won a 3A State Championship with a 4-1 victory in the finals. The highlight of his collegiate career was qualifying for the NCAA tournament as a sophomore and making it to the round of 12, one match shy of All American honors.
Wilson has been coaching at the high school level since 1991. He has coached athletes at the state tournament in every one of his 22 plus years as a coach. In 1995 he was voted Arizona Coach of the Year after leading Cibola High School to a 5A state championship. He has also coached numerous all state athletes in 4 states including 11 individual state champs. Coach Wilson’s son was a 3X state champion for Keller Central High School, a two year starter for the Sooners, and an All American for the University of Central Oklahoma.
He is now the head wrestling coach for the Burleson Centennial program. Hammerhead Wresting Academy will practice out of Centennial’s 3 mat wrestling room

Our Approach
Fundamentals and position win championships. If it isn’t goning to work in high level wrestling, we don’t even show it. We have a curriculum we follow. Strength and conditioning, move selection, and a desire to win that exceeds the fear of being tired are the ingredients of a state champion. We all shoot for that pinnacle. Most fall short. But that is what is special about winning that elusive gold medal at the state tournament.
Dream it
I would rather have an athlete set their goal high and not quite get there vs achieving a low set goal. Set your bar high!
Build it
Wrestlers are made not born. All State athletes are created by investing time into their cradt. We create balanced athletes that are technical, explosive, and well conditioned. This only happens through hard work over time
